Robert Eugene Hopper

June 1, 1935 - April 24, 2018

Robert Eugene Hopper Born June 1, 1935 Fresno, CA Bob considered himself to be a quiet, shy man with a good sense of humor, but he could talk the ear off of a stranger. He loved his wife Elaine at first sight. They met on a sunny April afternoon at Fresno City College. Married October 5, 1957 just six months later. His Family was most important to him, he had three daughters Susan (Rod) Tribble, Tricia (Joe) Zigmund, and Pam Dealing. Four Grandchildren Dan Laux, Chris Laux, Madison Dealing, and Brian Dealing. Ten Great Grandchildren (one in heaven with him Tommy Laux), and two Brothers Chan and Steve. Although he always believed in Jesus he didn’t make his confession until March 2009. Baptized by sprinkling at the Yuma Marine Base Chapel and always believing he was a Baptist. He reaffirmed his faith with emersion baptism in 2011. Active Duty in the Army 1953-1957, then joined the Army National Guard in 1973. Retired with 20 years total service in 1993. Went on to private industry as a machinist in Fresno, CA before moving to Bremerton in December 1969 to work for shop 31 later transferring to shop 06. Where he retired from April 1993. Bob enjoyed the RV life style. Starting with weekend outings with the Sounder Sam’s Chapter of the Good Sam’s Club. After Elaine retired he enjoyed being a snow bird going to Yuma, AZ for 18 years. If it wasn’t sunny and 80 degrees he wasn’t happy with the weather. He also enjoyed Scuba Diving off the California coast, Golf until his eye sight started failing and he couldn’t follow the ball. Running, jogging, and walking many 5K’s in the area, a 10K in Las Vegas 2016, one Seattle ½ marathon, four Las Vegas ½ marathons taking second in the eighties plus age group in 2015. Even near the end, Bob felt he could do anything he wanted to do. Although the dementia had robbed him of all his mechanical abilities and thought processes. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to CHI Franciscan Hospital or your favorite charity.
