Allen Andrew Larson

Allen Andrew Larson, 88, of Port Orchard, Washington, passed away peacefully at his home on February 17, 2026.

Born in Washington’s Columbia River Valley to Charles and Ida Larson, Allen grew up learning a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the outdoors on the family farm — qualities that shaped the rest of his life.

After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Washington before beginning a long and varied career defined by curiosity, ingenuity, and hard work. He worked in aerospace with Martin Marietta and later at NASA, contributing to the Skylab and Apollo missions during a remarkable chapter in American history. In the late 1970s, he moved to Midland, Texas, where he applied his engineering talents to the oil and gas industry, concluding his professional career with Wärtsilä, the Finland-based engine manufacturer.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Allen was a man of hands-on talent and deep passions. A lifelong baseball fan, he rarely missed a chance to follow the game, including “listening” to his beloved Mariners with his eyes closed. He loved working with his hands — building, fixing, and creating and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He also had a particular love for dogs, especially the many beloved Great Pyrenees who were part of his life over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Larson, to whom he was married for 52 years. He is also survived by his children: Darla (Karl), Robert (Laurie), Debra (Jerry), and Jeffrey; his daughter-in-law Kathy; twelve grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Roger, his daughter Andrea, and his brother Leslie. He is survived by his brother Norman and Norman’s wife, Joyce.

Allen’s life was one of evolution, and he will be remembered for his passion for family, his mechanical skill, a tall tale every now and then, and a wry smile to go along with his subtle laugh.
