Barbara Safsten

Barbara Lee Safsten, 76, died at her home in Port Orchard on November 1, 2011.  She was born August 3, 1935 in Tacoma, WA to Buford & Evelyn (Haugland) House.  She graduated from Olympia High School in 1954 and attended Seattle Pacific University.  She married Gunnar Safsten in Tumwater, WA on February 21, 1957.  Barbara worked as a Fisheries Technician at the Domsen Facility in Manchester and Gorst. She was a member of Harper Evangelical Free Church and was involved in several women’s programs at Harper, Black Lake Bible Conference, and youth camps.  She enjoyed raising her family and being a mother.  She collected dolls & Coca Cola memorabilia and liked camping, hiking & boating.  Surviving are husband Gunnar; sons Dave Safsten and Tim (Kathy) Safsten of Port Orchard; grandchildren Heidi, James & Jeffrey, all of Port Orchard; brother Dave (Peggy) House of Olympia; and sister Dianne Smith of Littlerock, WA.  She was preceded in death by son Dan Safsten. Final resting place Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
