It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Beverly Jean Nelson, 83, of Port Orchard Washington. She passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, with her children at her side. Bev was born on July 3, 1943, in Roseau Minnesota to Elmer and Bernice Wicklander. At a young age her family relocated to Seattle, where she spent most of her youth. Eventually as an adult she would build her life in Port Orchard Washington. Where she married and raised her family. Bev lived in the Port Orchard area for 58+ years.
Bev achieved an AA degree from Olympic College in accounting/bookkeeping. For many years she managed the Capitol Tavern in Manchester Washington (which was owned by her mother in the 70’s and eventually her sister, until it was sold in 2007) She was a very detailed and organized bookkeeper. Beyond her work, Bev had deep love for sewing, crocheting and knitting. She was an exceptionally talented seamstress designing and sewing many custom wedding dresses, bridesmaids’ dresses, formals gowns, costumes and home décor items for her family and friends. She truly found joy in creating and giving handmade items to others. Her love for sharing her talents would lead her to volunteer to teach sewing to the teen moms’ program at the South Kitsap School District Discovery program. Over the years Bev worked at a couple of the local craft/fabric stores, where she would usually spend her paycheck before she got it home! She will be remembered for her sewing talents, amazing creations and the way she cared for everyone around her.
Bev is survived by her children; Bryon Nelson (wife Sharon), JoDee Hull (husband Rick), Paula Bayne (husband Daren); 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and her sister Suzann Wicklander. She was preceded in death by her daughters Cindy Lou Bowers and Sandy Rook.
She was a loving mother, Mamo, Nana, aunt, sister and friend who will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered. Rest in peace Mom, until we are together again.
Our family would like to extend a special thank you to Orchard Pointe Memory Care in Port Orchard, WA – who lovingly cared for Bev for the past 2+ years. We are also eternally grateful to the ‘angels on earth’ at Shalom Hospice, whose gentle touch and deep compassion brought peace to Bev and comfort to us all.
A Celebration of Life gathering will take place on November 7th , 2:00pm at The Clubhouse at Lakeland Village 470 E Country Club Dr Allyn, WA.
Our family would love to see you there.
