Jean Marie Schneider
May 21, 1944 – October 6, 2025
Jean Marie Schneider, known as Jeanne to her sisters, nieces, and nephews, and affectionately as Gram or Ducky Gramma to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on October 6, 2025, in Silverdale, Washington.
Born on May 21, 1944, in Portage, Wisconsin, Jean was the daughter of Victor and Maryon Imig. She grew up in Wisconsin alongside her siblings—Joanne Hensler, Patricia Lopez, Thomas Imig, and Paula Hibner—and carried with her a deep love of family and strong Midwestern values throughout her life.
Jean married her high school sweetheart, Norman N. “Nick” Schneider, Jr., and together they shared 49 wonderful years before his passing in June 2025. As a proud Navy wife, Jean embraced the adventure of traveling with Nick to Minnesota, Guam, and Hawaii before they eventually settled in Port Orchard, Washington, where she spent the last 45 years of her life.
A dedicated professional, Jean worked for many years as a legal secretary and later as an administrative assistant for the Director of Personnel and Human Services, retiring in 2004. But her true calling and greatest joy were found in her family.
She was a devoted mother to Daniel R. Gehler (Danny), Tony G. Gehler and wife Jenee, and Nikki Jean Fisher and husband Garrett. She cherished her grandchildren—Ashlie Wolcott (Timmy), Sara Cline (Gary), Kyle Gehler, Alli Fisher, Eli Fisher, and Luke Fisher—and took immense joy in her great-grandchildren: Sophie Paulus, Rylie Paulus, Serenity Wolcott, Bella Lavook, and Hudson Cline. Jean’s love for her family was endless; she never missed a game, performance, or celebration, and always had time to simply play and laugh with the little ones she adored.
Jean was known for her kind heart, sharp wit, and generous spirit. She loved a good mystery novel, was famous for her delicious home-cooked meals and cookies, and could always be counted on for a spirited game of cards. Trips to the casino with Nick and later her sons brought her great fun—and she delighted in a small jackpot on her last visit. Above all, she treasured family gatherings, where her laughter and warmth filled every room.
Jean will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her love, kindness, and gentle strength will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
