Joan Smith

Joan Ruth Smith, 79 of Port Orchard, died in Bremerton November 29, 2011.  She was born October 25, 1932 in Milwaukee, WI to Hugh S. & Ruth A. (Swingley) Marty.  She married Donald Gordon Smith on August 2, 1958 in Cape Cod, MA. Joan worked for 17 years as a Preschool Teacher at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Daycare Center, retiring in 1993. Joan received a Distinguished Service Award July 17, 1960, for saving the lives of numerous flood victims in the Philippines at her own personal risk.  She was a member of the ladies Auxillary of Eagles and the RV Club.  She loved her doggies “Pepper” and “Annie” very much. Surviving are husband Donald; son William Andrew “Bill” Smith of Port Orchard; daughter Patti Ann (Tracy Lee) Leischner of Port Orchard; grandchildren Nicholas, Thomas, Bradley, Brice and Breck; and 6 great-grandchildren. Memorial Service at 4:00 pm on December 2, 2011, 4570 SE Bakken Court in Port Orchard.Burial at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
