Obituary

In Loving Memory of

Joanne Kay Clark

March 4, 1955 – April 12, 2026

Joanne Kay Clark passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and connection that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Born on March 4, 1955, in Bremerton, Washington, Joanne was raised in the close-knit community of Olalla, where she lived her entire life and formed deep roots and lifelong friendships. In her younger years, she was active in 4-H, where she developed a love for animals and the outdoors. She especially loved riding horses, and her horse Duchess, held a special place in her heart. Joanne also enjoyed fishing and was a proud member of the drill team at South Kitsap High School.

She attended South Kitsap High School, where she graduated in 1973. She carried with her the values of kindness, loyalty, and community throughout her life. Joanne later served as a dedicated Postmaster for 26 years, known not only for her strong work ethic but also for her warm smile and genuine care for everyone she encountered.

Above all, Joanne was devoted to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who cherished every moment spent with those she loved. She had a special gift for bringing people together, filling gatherings with laughter, warmth, and unforgettable memories. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she was their biggest supporter—always cheering them on with pride and unconditional love.

Joanne lived life fully and without regret. Guided by her life motto, “Sisu,” she embodied strength, resilience, and determination in all that she did. She shared a beautiful 52 years and 8 months, and one day of marriage with her soulmate and the love of her life, Donald Joseph Clark, and together they exemplified a deep and lasting love.

She had a creative and adventurous spirit that showed in everything she did. Joanne was an incredible artist who found joy in watercolor painting and photography, capturing beauty in both art and everyday life. She loved genealogy, traveling, gardening, camping, and kayaking, and found peace near the water—especially at Olalla Bay, a place she held close to her heart. She also found simple joy in quiet mornings, sitting in her recliner with a cup of coffee, watching the wildlife from her window.

Joanne cherished family traditions, especially during the Christmas season. She loved making lefsa and took great joy in passing that tradition down through generations, creating lasting memories with her loved ones. She also enjoyed thrifting and spending summer evenings at concerts in the park, simple pleasures that brought her happiness and connection with others.

One of the most memorable experiences of her life was a trip to Finland with her cousin, Diane Herrick. There, she connected with extended family and visited the farm where her grandparents once lived—an experience that deeply honored her heritage and brought her immense joy. Her kindness touched countless lives, and her love for life inspired everyone around her.

Joanne’s presence was a true gift, and her memory will continue to shine through the many lives she influenced.

She was preceded in death by her father, Fritz Forstrom; her mother, Dorthy Joanne Forstrom; and her brothers, John Forstrom, Kenny Forstrom, and Stan Forstrom.

Joanne is survived by her loving husband, Donald Joseph Clark; her daughter, Melissa Jo Hadley and son-in-law, Joshua Wayne Hadley; her son, Joshua Joseph Clark and daughter-in-law, Lindsey J. Clark; her sister, Linda Dillard and brother-in-law, Darryl Dillard; her sister-in-law, Barb Forstrom; and her cherished grandchildren: Isabella Grace Hadley, Quillin Thomas Hadley, Jameson Wayne Hadley, Owen Joseph Clark, and Benton Forstrom Clark
