Obituary

John Ora Degarimore, 82, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026.

Dad was born in Bremerton, Washington on June 3, 1944, to Ora and Marie Degarimore. He grew up there. He graduated from the University of Washington, then went to officer candidate school and served honorably in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Dorothy Susan Hunt on August 5, 1967 and they had six children together.

John was preceded in death by his beloved Susie in 2013, his daughter Suzette in 1974, and his parents.

For many years Dad ran Kitsap Sports, the premier sporting goods store in Bremerton. He worked with his parents until the day they died, and he worked with us as we grew up. It was a true family run business.

Dad served faithfully in his church in many capacities. He especially loved his service in the temple and as a Bishop.

Dad loved to golf, especially with his children. He was a former club champion at Kitsap Golf and Country Club. He loved Hawaii and spent many months every year in his beloved Kauai.

There was nothing John loved more than being with his children. If he could do that while golfing, and even better, while in Hawaii, that was the ultimate joy for him.

John was known for his almost always cheerful disposition and his easy laugh. He teased everyone, and he loved to make people laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ramirez; his children Valerie (Todd) Corelli, Michael (Tina) Degarimore, David (Kimberly) Degarimore, Beth (John) Payne, and Amy Jorgensen; 23 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 14 at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 9256 Nels Nelson Rd NW, Bremerton, WA. A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Lane Cemetery in Port Orchard, Washington.

We’d like to extend special thanks to Legacy House Park Lane for their exceptional care and tenderness during his final months.
