At one of the rest stops was a Communist headquarters, where he spent hours discussing political philosophy with both Communist leaders. In the Korean War he flew 150 missions in an F-80. He retired in 1963 from the United States Air Force; they moved from Florida to Washington State. In 1967 the family moved to Port Orchard. He worked at the Kitsap County Assessor’s Office and retired from there in 1984. He and Bunny divorced in 1984. Joe met and married Barbara Willard Trezise in 1985.
