Joyce Elaine Toms, 78, passed away on June 13, 2023, in University Place, WA. She's off to her next adventure after a life well-lived. Joyce was born on June 24, 1944, to Leonard and Beaulah Mettler in Huron, SD. She made her mark in the world as a loyal daughter and sister growing up on the family farm in Virgil. The family moved to Seattle in 1959 where she worked in the family restaurant, went to Lincoln High School graduating in 1962 and she also attended nursing school. Soon after she became a loving wife and mother, and in later years a doting grandmother and great grandmother. She worked at Safeway for many years and was a customer favorite - she always knew how to put a smile on their faces. Joyce was a jack-of-all-trades, with talents ranging from cooking and entertaining to hunting and gardening. She also had a need for speed and loved her time in the Austin Healey Car Club. And let's not forget her love of sports - she was a real MVP at her kids, grandkids, and nieces and nephews' games.
Joyce is survived by her husband Steve Toms, her daughters Lisa Hoonan (Kelly Hoonan, husband) and Lori Walker, her grandkids Tanner Walker (Micheala Ranz), Delaney Torres (Juan Torres, husband), and Chase Hoonan, her great-granddaughter Isla Torres, and her sisters Ardelle Gulbraa and Bonnie Stenson and their families. Joyce will be deeply missed by all who knew her. But we're sure she's already reconnecting with her heavenly parents and relatives along with making new friends in the afterlife.
A celebration of Joyce's life will be held on Saturday, June 24 (her birthday) at Rill's Funeral Home at 12:00 pm in Port Orchard, WA. Any and all are welcome to join us for a short ceremony, sharing of memories and to enjoy some refreshments and birthday cake in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite cancer charity in her memory would be greatly appreciated.
