Born September 18, 1946, passed away from heart failure on October 18, 2012, in Tacoma, Washington.
Kim Mi Jae was born in Seoul, Korea, adopted and relocated to live in the Seattle area on November 1st 1960, taking on her adoptive families name and known as Kim Sue Chapman. She eventually met her future husband commuting on the WA. State ferry system, and several years later took the step to become Kim S. Garbarino.
Kim’s career life included being a wife, mother, bank teller, clerk for Pan Am Airways, entrepreneur of a clothing boutique, and a legal assistant of the last 20+ years. While Kim was proud of achieving goals, such as bringing her birth-mother to the U.S. after years of endless pursuit, and obtaining her Certification in Ikebana, her greatest accomplishments were in assisting others. She had an endless open heart for helping those less fortunate, or in hardship. A history of volunteering at Harrison Memorial hospital, consoling others during times of sorrow, and making sure everyone had a meal for Thanksgiving, along with a gift under the Christmas tree, will be her legacy. Kim embraced those she came in contact with, holding a determination to be sure warmth and happiness was felt by all. A loving mother, companion, and friend too many, her love and contributions will be forever missed.
Kim is survived by two sons, Rod, residing in Redmond, and Tony, residing in Pt. Orchard, along with a previous husband, Gene, and companion of 20 years, Preston Foskey. Grand-daughter Amber Garbarino resides in Georgia, with great-grandson, Ethan, and Korean sister, Mi Ae of San Francisco, along with adopted sister Lynn Wilson of Lyle, Washington
Services will be held at 1PM, Monday, October 29th at Rill’s Life Tribute Center 1151 Mitchell Avenue, Port Orchard, 98366. Private burial will be at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard. To visit Kim’s online memorial visit
