Obituary

Kirk Wyn DaZelle, 84, of Manchester, WA, passed away peacefully with family at his side on March 8, 2026, at St Michael Medical Center, Silverdale.

Kirk was born on November 4, 1941 in Bellingham, Washington. He was active in the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from Bellingham High School in 1959, he enlisted in the US Navy. Over the course of his naval career, he advanced through the ranks from enlisted sailor to Chief Petty Officer and later Warrant Officer before retiring as a Lieutenant in 1983. During his service, he worked primarily in personnel and administrative services.

His Navy assignments included Kodiak, Alaska, Subic Bay in the Philippines, Okinawa, NAD Bangor; aboard the aircraft carriers USS Shangri-La, USS Forrestal, USS Coral Sea and USS Ranger. He also served at CINCLANTFLT in Norfolk, Virginia and his final duty station Trident Training Facility at Bangor. He was well regarded for his leadership, dedication and professionalism, earning the respect of those he served with.

While working at NAD Bangor, he met and married Barbara, the love of his life in March 1968. Their two daughters soon followed and together the family supported him through the many moves that came with his naval career.

Following his military career, Kirk earned an associate degree in horticulture. He later worked as a postal clerk in Bremerton, Washington for over 18 years, retiring in 2003.

Kirk had a lifelong love of learning and enjoyed reading both fiction and nonfiction, especially books related to mathematics, science, and history. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, and spending time looking up at the night sky with an interest in astronomy. He also loved spending time with friends and family, hanging out at Village Greens Golf Course, visiting the casinos and trying his luck with the lottery.

Kirk is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Barbara (Irish) DaZelle of Manchester, Washington; his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Daniel Lokken, and grandchildren Ryan and Katie Lokken, all of Darien, Illinois. He is also survived by his nephew, Jarret Stevenson of San Diego, California.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie DaZelle; his sister Janice Misencik; and his parents Ellwyn and Betty (Mullikin) DaZelle.

Kirk will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
