Following her service she returned to New Jersey where she completed nursing school and worked as an RN. In 1976 she moved to San Diego and continued working as an RN.

It was not uncommon for her to be recognized out and about by Kitsap parents as the nurse with them during their child's delivery.
Loraine loved dogs and was a regular at the Bandix dog park. In retirement she was active in the Kitsap Genealogy society and quilting. She loved watching the Mariners, going to the beach and was an avid reader.
She was preceded in death in March 2020 by her long time partner, Kenneth Lavier. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Magee, brother Leroy Magee, grandchildren, Michael Williams and Gabrielle Ogorsolka and her two great grandchildren, Ruby Grace and Theo Leroy.
