Louise Mardell Carter

July 5, 1934 — July 25, 2025

Bremerton, WA

Louise Carter, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at St. Michael’s Hospital, at the age of 91.

Born on July 5, 1934, in Cottage Grove, Oregon, Louise was the daughter of Einar Lundbom, a Swedish immigrant, and Elsie Plueard, a member of a long-time Oregon pioneer family. She was preceded in death by her brothers Richard, Gerald, Oscar, Gus, and Roy Lundbom, and her sister Laurita Berg. She is survived by her devoted sister, Deanna Lindholm and her sister-in-law and dearest friend of over 70 years, Betty Lambert.

As a young woman, Louise began her career as a telephone operator with Pacific Northwest Bell in the days of manually connecting calls on a central switchboard and answering calls to “O” for operator. She remained with the company until her retirement, building a legacy of dedication, professionalism, and pride in her work.

Louise’s daily rituals were simple but meaningful—reading the newspaper cover to cover and never missing the crossword puzzle. She was a devoted Seattle Mariners and Seahawks fan, cheering passionately through every game and season.

She found her greatest joy outdoors, especially while camping and traveling in her RV with family. Known as an expert campfire builder, she created warm gathering spaces wherever she went—nurturing bonds, sharing stories, and making memories.

Louise was the devoted mother of five children: Robbie Bell, Daniel Whiting, James Whiting, Bart Whiting, and David Luxton. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and great-grandmother to three, all of whom were the lights of her life. Her love and influence will live on in each of them.

Her warmth, humor, and quiet strength touched the lives of all who knew her. Louise’s life was rooted in family, guided by tradition, and filled with love, laughter, and resilience.

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate her life and honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to spend time with your loved ones, take a camping trip, or cheer on the Mariners in her name.
