Norman "Norm" Lawrence Reinhardt, Jr., 75, heard the voice of his Savior say, "Well done, good and faithful servant...enter into the joy of your Lord," on June 6, 2025 after nine months of bravely fighting leukemia.
Born in Linthicum Heights, Maryland, on May 12, 1950, to Patricia (Watts) Reinhardt and Norman Lawrence Reinhardt, Sr., Norm possessed a lifelong pride in his Maryland roots (he would have put Old Bay on everything if we'd let him!) as well as his deeper family heritage in the history of the United States. The eldest of seven siblings, he was a devoted son and steadfast eldest brother, especially after the sudden passing of his father in 1962.
After graduating with honors from Andover High School in 1968, Norm joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a corpsman in Iwakuni, Japan during the height of the Vietnam War. Following deployment, Norm was restationed in Bremerton, WA and called Port Orchard home the rest of his life. After honorably discharging from the Navy as Hospitalman Chief (HMC), Norm entered federal civil service at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, where he enjoyed a 27-year career in the electroplating shop, having graduated the apprentice program in 1982 as an honor student and later becoming an apprentice instructor in his trade, one of his proudest career accomplishments across his 38 total years of service to the United States.
Outside of work, Norm was a lifelong and avid outdoorsman, enjoying walks in the woods with his grandkids, camping trips with family, hunting waterfowl and deer with friends, and most especially crabbing and fishing. His retirement years were busy, filled with travel, endless boat repairs, and vocal advocacy for our natural resources. One of his greatest desires was the conservation of the environment, especially salmon, for future generations, and he served for many years as Chief Poggie of Kitsap Poggie Club, working hand-in-hand with his neighbors in the Suquamish Tribe as well as with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife fishing advisory committees as a steward for the preservation of salmon runs.
Norm was a lifetime Lutheran, attending St. John's Lutheran Church in Linthicum Heights, MD in childhood, and Bethany Lutheran Church in Port Orchard, WA. His life was deeply informed by his faith, his greatest joy was in the knowledge of sins forgiven and eternal life in Christ, and he believed his truest calling was to be in service to others as an example of Christ's love for all. He also attributed his 38 years of sobriety solely to a Higher Power, and was a dedicated friend of Bill W. and many others.
His devotion as Husband, Daddy and Grampy, commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth, readiness to listen and share advice, gift for storytelling, appreciation for art, music and books, love of country and democratic ideals, and overall joie de vivre will be deeply missed. "Just remember: The Big Guy Loves You!"
Norman was reunited in heaven with his parents, brother Francis "Frank," and first wife Martha Ann Yanka. He is survived by many loving friends and family, including his beloved wife of 43 years Dorothy; children Karyn & Ginnie Zinter of Bremerton, WA, Cheri Rapp of Port Orchard, WA, Kelli & Jeremy Gracia of Port Orchard, WA, Paula & Robert Monroe of Belfair, WA, and bonus daughter Misty Nason of Bremerton, WA; grandchildren Casey & Micaela Rapp, Alicia (Monroe) & Chase Sowers, Andrew & Karla Monroe, Lydia Astrall & Dominic Monroe, Isabel & Emma Gracia, and bonus granddaughter Tabitha Coston; great-grandchildren Ariel & Garrett Sowers, and Leonardo, Giovanna, Julianna & Eliana Monroe; siblings Sharon & Jim Fischer, Cheryl & Denny Miles, Richard & Pam Reinhardt, Brian Reinhardt, and Colleen Reinhardt Hylton, all of Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 11 A.M. on Friday, June 27 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 151 Tremont St., Port Orchard, WA with luncheon to follow. Private inurnment will be at Sunset Lane Cemetery, Port Orchard, WA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to Kitsap Poggie Club (https://kitsappoggieclub.com/contact/) or to Bethany Lutheran Church Bedtime Books at Bethany program (https://www.bethanylutheranportorchard.org/contact-us).
