Respected former Port Orchard City Councilwoman and longtime Silverdale State Bank President, Rebecca “Bek” Diane Ashby passed away Thursday, October 16, 2025. Born in Bremerton and raised in Port Orchard, Bek spent most of her career at Silverdale State Bank where she started as a teller and, through hard work and tenacity, rose to become President — serving until her retirement in 2001.
Known for her innovative approach and strong operational leadership, Bek modernized the bank and mentored countless employees. She believed deeply in mentorship and in giving people opportunities to grow and better themselves. Her colleagues remember her as both exacting and kind, someone who could streamline a system and still make everyone laugh before the meeting ended.
Following her retirement, Bek continued her commitment to public service. She served two terms on the Port Orchard City Council (2013–2021). During her two terms, she was a strong advocate for responsible development, civil service, and community enrichment. She also held two seven-year terms on the Civil Service Committee, chaired the Relay for Life for many years, and was active in local youth sports and Little League.
Beyond her professional and civic accomplishments, Bek was known for her adventurous spirit and deep love of the outdoors. A lifelong fitness enthusiast, Bek completed countless races, including three full marathons and more than fifteen half marathons. She hiked the Camino de Santiago in Spain and explored South Africa with her close friend Laurel Sayers. She also rafted the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon with close friend, Joni Simmerman, and embarked on the Tatshenshini River rafting expedition in Alaska. She enjoyed multiple kayaking trips through Yellowstone and up Vancouver Island with friends, treasured family camping road trips, and rainy weekends spent in Seaside, Oregon, where she always got her steps in on the Boardwalk, rain or shine.
Bek will be remembered for her boundless energy, sharp wit, and deep love for her family and community. She was preceded in death by her son, Duane Piercy Jr., and is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Moore, son-in-law Michael Moore, and grandchildren Owen Moore, Adam Piercy, and Nicole Piercy.
A service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Rill’s Funeral Home in Port Orchard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Kitsap Helpline (skhelpline.org/give).
